Two-thousand-five-hundred and sixty days have passed since the last time the Washington Demons (3-5 overall; 1-1 Southeast) had beaten the Mount Pleasant Panthers in boys’ basketball. Behind a team-high 16 points from junior guard Derek Anding, the Washington Demons were able to earn their first conference victory of the season with a 49-43 triumph over the Panthers. The win was the first for the Demons over the Panthers since January 4, 2008, a span of 14 game over seven years.

Head coach Bryce Smeins says the team was able to beat Mount Pleasant because of the effort his team put in on the defensive end of the court, ‘You hold somebody to 43 points that’s a pretty good effort on defense.” Smeins said, “We were sketchy on offense at times but we scored enough points to win the game.”

The victory improved Washington to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in Southeast Conference play. Washington returns to the court Friday evening against the Ottumwa Bulldogs at Ottumwa High School.
