Two teams are vying for back to back wins for the first time this season battle tonight as the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (2-5 overall; 0-1 Southeast) squares off against the Mount Pleasant Panthers (2-5 overall; 1-1 Southeast) at Washington High School. The last time the Demons were on the floor, they snapped a five game losing streak with a 59-46 victory over the Iowa Mennonite School at Hillcrest Union Saturday. Junior guard Derek Anding had 19 points to lead the Demons, the seventh time this season he has led Washington in scoring. Senior guard Blake Weidman had a season-high 15 points and brought down six rebounds in the victory.

The Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak the last time they were on the court, defeating the West Burlington Falcons 57-40 in West Burlington last Saturday. Freshman Brady Sartorius leads the Panthers in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game. Sartorius is a perfect 16-16 this season from the free-throw line. Freshman Kieran Kohorst has grabbed a team-leading 32 rebounds for the Panthers this season.

Washington is looking to end a long losing streak tonight against Mount Pleasant. The Demons haven’t beaten the Panthers in boys’ basketball since January 4, 2008, a span that includes 14 straight victories for Mount Pleasant.

Tonight’s varsity boys’ basketball game is scheduled to tip off at 7:45 p.m. at Washington High School.
