A Washington man placed first in the state in a corn yield contest. Tom Vittetoe of Washington won first place in the AA No-Till/Strip-Till Non-Irrigated division of the 2014 National Corn Growers’ Association’s Corn Yield Contest in Iowa. He won with a Pioneer brand hybrid which yielded 284 bushels per acre. The contest is an annual U.S. National competition among corn growers with the goal of capitalizing on the high genetic yield potential of corn hybrids.

In 2013, in Washington County, the average corn yield per acre was 160 bushels.
