The Washington Demon wrestling team is just one step away from back-to-back Southeast Conference titles. The Demons traveled to Fort Madison for a clash with the Bloodhounds last night. The battle encompassed the final two undefeated dual teams in the Southeast Conference.

As a team, Washington earned four pins, a major decision, two decisions, and a forfeit win in a 40-31 victory over Fort Madison. Washington got out to an early 12-0 lead with two pins by sophomores Kyle Anderson (120) and Austin Hazelett (126).

Fort Madison battled back to take a 25-12 lead by winning the next five matches in a row including three wins by pin.

Freshman Tanner Murphy (170) snapped Fort Madison’s individual winning streak coming up with a pin in his match. Washington rattled off the next four weight class victories including two falls, a decision, and a forfeit to take a 37-25 lead in the dual.

Fort Madison and Washington traded the final two matches with the Bloodhounds winning weight class 106 with a pin, and Washington sophomore Andrew Waite earning a major decision at 113 pounds to help secure the victory.

The win improves Washington to 11-1 overall in dual meets, and improved their dual record in conference to 3-0. The only team Washington hasn’t met in conference yet is the Mount Pleasant Panthers, who they are scheduled to wrestle against next Thursday at Washington High School. A win for the Demons secures back-to-back conference titles.

The Demon wrestling team is scheduled to take part this weekend in the Highland Community Schools wrestling tournament this Saturday at Highland High School.
