With the district tournament less than a month away, the Washington Demon wrestling team (20-1 dual record) has another full day of competition ahead of them tomorrow. The Washington wrestling team is traveling to Le Grand for the East Marshall Dual Tournament at East Marshall High School.

The tournament is split up into two four-team pools with Washington scheduled to face East Marshall, South Tama, and Des Moines Lincoln in a round robin dual format. The other pool includes: Union-La Porte City, Benton-Van Horne, Dyersville-Beckman, and the Independence junior varsity squad. The top two teams for each pool will face their counterpart in a final dual for a potential of five dual meets for the day.

Wrestling coach Brent Van Weelden says the event provides good late season competition for his team, “There are probably five really strong teams there and the other three teams with some good individual wrestlers.” Van Weelden said, “It will be good for us and is designed to help us get ready for the sectional tournament.”

The Washington wrestling team took nine individual wrestlers to the Ed Hadenfeldt Tournament at Solon High School last week. Senior Brad Skubal was the champion of the 195 pound weight class. Sophomore Alex Latcham made it into the final match before taking second place at 106 pounds.

The first duals at the East Marshall Tournament are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at East Marshall High School in Le Grand.
