Winter storm in downtown Washington on Feb. 17, 2014, after 3.5 inches of snow fell.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the KCII listening area beginning at 3 p.m. this afternoon and scheduled to end at 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. According to the National Weather Service, arctic air and bitter cold wind chills will be followed by possible heavy snow later today and early tomorrow. Snow accumulations for five to eight inches are in the forecast.

Temperatures are expected to be between 11 and 16 degrees with winds at five to 10 miles per hour and windchill readings as low as one degree below zero.

This winter storm may impact area roadways, with snow quickly covering roads and making them hazardous. The powdery snow may result in drifting and areas of poor visibility.
