A barrage of points given up in the third quarter led to the end of the boys’ basketball season for the Washington Demons (6-16 overall). As heard on AM and FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons and Raiders squared off for the second time in less than a week, this time in the semifinals of the Class 3A District 9 tournament. After being tied at 22 at intermission, the Raiders outscored the Demons 25-10 in the third quarter alone, helping propel Williamsburg to a 60-41 victory over Washington.

The Demons had three players score in double figures Monday night, including senior guard Thomas Bump scoring 11 points on 8 of 9 free throw attempts in the setback. Junior guard Derek Anding also had 11 points, 10 coming in the first half, and freshman forward Javionn Willis scored 10 points in the loss. This marks the final basketball game for several Demon players including: Bump, Daryn Sebelius, Gage Redlinger, Grant Marek, Blake Weidman, Isaiah Zuehlke, and Jacob Baughman.

After trading the lead 14 different times in the first half and being tied five others, the Raiders created ultimate separation in the third thanks in part to senior guard Adam Klein. Klein had a game-high 19 points, 11 of which came in the third quarter. Junior guard Allyn Francis came off the bench to score 13 of his 15 points in the second half.

Williamsburg improves to 21-1 overall with the win, their 20th straight victory this season, and faces the Clear Creek Amana Clippers in the District 9 championship game on Thursday evening at Iowa City West High School. For the Demons, they end their season with a 6-16 overall record, matching their record from the 2013-14 season.
