They live in furniture and mattresses and come out at night to feed on humans – they are bed bugs. An informational session about bed bugs will be held this week at the Washington County Extension Office. Washington County Environmental Department Director Jennine Wolf states there has been a growing number of bed bug reports in Washington County. She explains the pests do not carry diseases but are expensive to exterminate.

She says people can get them anywhere from theater seats to hanging their coat next to a coat that has bed bugs on it. Wolf adds bed bugs impact people of various income levels, as people who have means often travel and can get bed bugs while in hotel rooms.

Wolf’s goal is to educate the public. A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office Wednesday. For more information about bed bugs listen to Wolf’s full interview here and here.
