Today is Presidents’ Day and in observance of the federal holiday, a number of offices are closed. Due to the holiday, the U.S Post Office will not deliver mail today and other government offices are closed. Also, banks are closed in observance of the date. In addition, Washington Community School District does not have class today.

Annually, the day is celebrated the third Monday each February and is one of the 11 permanent holidays established by Congress, according to the National Archives. George Washington’s birthday became a legal holiday in 1879 when Congress added it to the list of observed holidays.
