The Columbus Wildcats girls’ basketball team (16-7 overall) saw their season come to an end in West Branch. The Wildcats were paired up against the Bears a Class 2A Region 5 quarterfinal game at West Branch High School.

West Branch got off to a fast start, outscoring Columbus 18-8 in the first quarter on their way to a 77-51 victory. The victory sends the Bears into the regional semifinals against the the Durant Wildcats on Friday, while the loss ends the career’s of record setting basketball players Kelsey Pretz and Claire Hamilton.

Pretz was held to eight points in her final game in a Wildcat uniform, finishing her senior season with 435 points, a single season record. Hamilton was held to just three points, but her only basket tied her for second place on Columbus’s all-time made 3 pointers (41).

The Columbus girls’ basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 16-7, the most wins since the 1999-2000 season.
