After being approached by a land owner on Wayland Road just outside of the Washington city limits regarding extending water services, the city council is considering the potential of annexing the area and future growth for the city. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained extending sewer services would be much more expensive than water lines, due to the need for a lift station. Hinson explained that looking at the long-term implications, it may make sense to extend utilities, as there are currently 28 homes in a close radius of the Country Club, plus the mobile home court and land which may have more homes constructed in the future. The estimate to extend water would be about $300,000.

Ed Raber, Director of Washington Economic Development Group, added the annexation would increase the population of the city and with that the tax base.

The council did not take any action and decided to further investigate the options.
