Last month, the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (5-12 overall; 1-5 Southeast) celebrated like it was 2008 after securing their first victory over the Mount Pleasant Panther (6-13 overall) basketball team in more than seven years. The first meeting between Washington and Mount Pleasant this season saw guards Thomas Bump and Derek Anding combine to score 27 points and bring down 10 rebounds in a 48-43 victory Jan. 9 at Washington High School.

Since the victory over Mount Pleasant, Washington has won just two of their nine games including losing six straight games to drop the Demons’ overall record to 5-12. The win against Mount Pleasant is the team’s lone Southeast Conference victory with two conference games remaining in the season.

Mount Pleasant, who has won six games this season, collected four of their wins since the first meeting with Washington. The Panthers’ top four scorers this season are freshman including: Brady Sartorius (13.2 points per game), Jordan Magnani (9.1 points per game), Colin Mulford (6.8 points per game), and Kieran Kohorst (6.6 points per game).

Tonight’s boys’ basketball games between Washington and Mount Pleasant begin with freshman game at 4:45 p.m. Live coverage of the boys’ varsity basketball game begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
