The Washington Demon girls’ basketball team’s (6-16 overall) postseason run came to an end last night at the hands of the Knoxville Panthers (18-4 overall). As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons and Panthers squared off in a Class 4A Region 5 clash Wednesday evening at Knoxville High School.

Washington committed season high 28 turnovers and 29 fouls, falling to the Panthers 52-34. Washington senior Dylan Schluetter scored a team-high 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior Sydney Hoffman scored six points (6-6 FT) and brought down eight rebounds in their final high school basketball game. The other seniors who played their final games last night include: Addison Gaal, MaKenna Goodwin, Sydney Hoffman, and Macey Marek.

As a team, Knoxville made 23 free throws of their 33 attempts. Senior guard Meredith Cunningham scored a game-high 20 points, including going 12-14 from the free throw line. Junior forward Ashley Hawkshead added 11 points in the victory.

The win advances the Panthers into a regional semifinal against former conference foe the Pella Little Dutch (18-2 overall) this Saturday in Pella. The Demon girls’ basketball team ends their season with an overall record of 6-16.
