Eating disorders can occur in anyone, regardless of age, gender or race, and during this National Eating Disorders Awareness Week the Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa is hoping to shed light on the issue. Peg Rasmussen, a board member and parent of a daughter who battled an eating disorder, says the earlier a person gets treatment the more likely the person is to have a successful recovery. She explains some of the early signs of an eating disorder include a change in behavior with food, change in how a person dresses, physical appearance, depression and isolation.

As part of EDCI’s efforts to educate, they are hosting an awareness event Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Des Moines Area Community College.
