The Washington Demon girls’ and boys’ basketball teams hosted their final double headers of the season last night, and the outcome wasn’t what the teams were hoping for. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, Washington hosted the Fort Madison Bloodhounds in a Southeast Conference showdown at Washington High School.

The Demon girls’ basketball team (5-14 overall; 0-7 Southeast) committed 17 of their game-high 25 turnovers in the second half and missed several layups in a 50-28 setback to Fort Madison. Three Washington players scored six points in the loss including senior Brynna Delong and juniors Morgan Kimball and Amber Salow. The loss drops the Demon girls’ basketball team to 5-14 overall and 0-7 in Southeast Conference play.

Washington’s boys’ basketball team (5-10 overall; 1-6 Southeast) kept the game close with the Bloodhounds for three quarters, finding themselves down 12 points heading into the fourth quarter. The Bloodhounds used a 7-0 run in the first 30 seconds of the fourth quarter to create separation on their way to a 78-53 victory over Washington. Demons got double digit points from junior guard Derek Anding (16) and senior guard Gage Redlinger (13) in the setback. The loss drops Washington to 5-10 overall and 1-6 in Southeast Conference play.

Both teams return to the court today against the Tipton Tigers. The girls’ varsity game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m with the boys’ varsity game to follow from Tipton High School.
