Four Washington High School seniors are one step closer to their dreams of playing college football. Seniors Daryn Sebelius, Tama Leutele, Thomas Bump, and Tommy Peterson all signed letters of intent to play college football this fall during a national signing day ceremony inside the high school gym Wednesday afternoon.

Two Demon players will stay teammates in college as Sebelius and Leutele have both committed to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. Sebelius, an All-State and All-District quarterback selection, signed with the Triton’s to compete for the starting quarterback position, while Leutele has signed to play along the offensive/defensive line. Sebelius finished his senior season second in Class 3A in total yards (2959) and total touchdowns (33). Leutele finished his senior year with 28 total tackles, seven for loss, and record two sacks for the Demon defense. Iowa Central’s football team finished last season 5-7 overall under coach Kevin Twait, including capturing the 2014 Graphic Edge Bowl.

Peterson is also staying in the state, committing to National Junior College Athletic Association power Iowa Western Community College of Council Bluffs. Peterson, an all-district lineman selection, will compete for a spot along the offensive/defensive line for Reivers’ head coach Scott Strohmeier. Peterson finished his senior season with 57 total tackles, 12 for loss, and recorded three sacks for the Demon defense. Since establishing a football program in 2009, Iowa Western has compiled a 57-10 overall record and captured the National Junior College Athletic Association’s championship in 2012. The Reivers competed in the in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s championship game this season, falling to top ranked East Mississippi 34-17.

Bump is taking his talents outside of Iowa, committing to Division II’s Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO. Bump finished his senior season leading the district in fumble recoveries (5), finished second in the district in total tackles (71), and sixth in tackles for loss (14). Bump, an all-district defensive selection, is expected to compete for a defensive position for Griffon head coach Jerry Partridge and joins former Washington graduates Nic Williams (2010) and Brock Kimball (2011) on the squad. Missouri Western finished 7-4 in the fall in the Mid-American Athletic Conference, missing the Division II playoffs for a second straight season.

The Washington Demon football team finished the 2014 season 8-4 overall, finishing as the Class 3 District 5 champions and losing to the eventual Class 3A State Champions the Pella Little Dutch in the quarterfinals.
