Heading into the final eight minutes to play, the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (5-12 overall; 1-6 Southeast) held a 34-32 advantage on the road over the West Liberty Comets. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Comets outscored the Demons 18-3 in the final quarter to win the game by a final score of 50-37.

Washington held slim leads at the end of each quarter prior to the final eight minutes, including a 12-9 after the first quarter, and a 24-22 lead at halftime.

Demon junior guard Derek Anding had a team-high 14 points, his third straight game scoring double figures for Washington. Senior guard Thomas Bump added eight points, while senior guard Gage Redlinger contributed seven in the setback. Freshman forward Javionn Willis made his varsity debut Tuesday night, scoring three points and collecting three rebounds.

Comets junior guard Brady Smith collected his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 14 of his game-high 17 points after halftime and brought down 13 rebounds in the victory.

The loss is the sixth straight for the Demons, who fall to 5-12 overall this season. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for West Liberty, improving the Comets to 4-16 overall. Washington returns to the court Friday evening in a Southeast Conference showdown with the Mount Pleasant Panthers at Mount Pleasant High School.
