A last quarter scoring run eliminated the Lone Tree Lions boys’ basketball team (19-5 overall) from postseason competition. The Lions traveled to Clarence for the Class 1A District 7 championship game versus the Marquette Catholic Mohawks of Bellevue (19-4 overall).

Lone Tree lead 39-32 heading into the fourth quarter, but Marquette Catholic outscored the Lions 22-9 in the final quarter on their way to a 54-48 victory. Mohawk senior Logan Schroeder scored 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to help secure the district championship.

Lions sophomore guard Jovonte Squires led the way with 15 points, while seniors Thomas Viner and Matt Wieland added nine points a piece in the setback. Five Lone Tree seniors played their final games last night including: Wieland, Thomas Viner, Nick Viner, Travis Gillham, Erik Murry.

The win improves Marquette Catholic to 19-4 overall and advances them into the Class 1A Substate 4 championship game against the Belle Plain Plainsman tomorrow evening. Lone Tree ends their season with a 19-5 overall mark.
