A gas tax increase passed in the Iowa House and Senate Tuesday. The bill that raises the tax by 10 cents was approved by members of the senate yesterday, and passed in the house a few hours later.

Governor Branstad has since signed the bill into law. The increase takes effect Sunday.

According to Representative for House District 84, Dave Heaton, this measure is estimated to generate an additional $200 million for maintaining the state’s roads and bridges.
