A regular season non-conference foe stands in the way of the Highland Huskies boys’ basketball team and a district championship. The Huskies are traveling south to Mount Pleasant High School this evening for the Class 2A Region 10 championship game versus the West Burlington Falcons (12-10 overall).

Highland got to the championship game by defeating the Central Lee Hawks 54-50 at Notre Dame High School in Burlington last Thursday. Junior Tereze Lanfair scored a team-high 16 points and brought down eight rebounds in the victory. The Huskies escaped with a win despite shooting 0-15 from beyond the three-point arc.

West Burlington is one of the postseason surprises in Class 2A, upsetting the Notre Dame Nikes (19-3 overall) 70-65. After starting their season 6-9 overall, the Falcons have won seven of their last eight games including winning their last six games.

Highland hosted West Burlington earlier this season in a non-conference game with the Huskies defeating the Falcon 58-51. Senior Jesse Woolrab scored a team-high 21 points and brought down 10 rebounds in the victory. Falcon senior Niko Selmon scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the game.

Tonight’s Class 2A District 10 boys’ basketball championship game between Highland and West Burlington is set to tip off at 7 p.m. Live play-by-play coverage from Mount Pleasant High School begins with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
