For the last three seasons, the Highland Huskies girls’ basketball (15-7 overall) season has come to an end at the hands of the Iowa City Regina Regals. Highland’s postseason run continues in Iowa City this evening for a fourth straight postseason meeting between the schools.

The Huskies opened up postseason play Saturday evening at Highland High School, winning in convincing fashion 57-25 over the North Mahaska Warhawks (4-18 overall). Highland outscored the Warhawks 29-16 in the first half and 28-9 in the second half. Sophomore point guard Kelsey Hora scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Huskies in the victory. The win improved the Huskies to 9-2 in games played at home this season.

The last three postseason matchups between Highland and Iowa City Regina have not been close, with the Huskies losing by an average of 30.7 points per game.

Iowa City Regina has had another successful girls basketball season, finishing the regular season winning 18 of their 21 scheduled games. The only loss they suffered at home this season occured on Jan 22. when the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks upset the Regals 56-49. Freshman guard Mary Crompton leads the Regals in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game.

The Class 2A Region 6 clash between Highland and Iowa City Regina is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Iowa City Regina High School. Live play-by-play coverage begins with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
