Area boys’ basketball teams know their initial postseason matchups as the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) released district brackets for Class 1A and 2A this week.

The post season for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (1-18 overall) begins next Monday (2/16) in Eddyville. Mid-Prairie has been paired up with the Albia Blue Demons (10-6 overall) in the Class 2A-District 11 bracket with the game scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. from Eddyville-Blakesburg High School. Should the Golden Hawks win, they would face the Pella Christian Eagles (10-6 overall) in Pella on Thursday (2/19) at 8 p.m.

The WACO Warriors (7-10 overall) also open up tournament play on Monday (2/16) as they are squaring off with the Maharishi Pioneers (0-17 overall) in the Class 1A-District 9 bracket. Should the Warriors win, they would play the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders (12-6 overall) in Van Buren on Thursday (2/19) at 6:30 p.m.

The rest of the KCII area teams begin postseason play on Thursday (2/19) across the Southeast Iowa region. The Iowa Mennonite School (12-6 overall) is facing the HLV Victor Warriors (2-14 overall) in the Class 1A-District 8 bracket at 6:30 p.m. from Montezuma High School. If IMS wins, they will face the winner of the Montezuma Braves (16-2 overall) and the English Valleys Bears (2-15) contest in Brooklyn on Monday (2/24) at 8 p.m.

The Highland Huskies (14-3 overall) received a bye in the Class 2A- District 10 bracket. The Huskies are slated to face the winner of the Mediapolis Bulldogs (4-13 overall) and the Central Lee Hawks (5-12 overall) clash in Burlington at 6:30 p.m. on Monday (2/16) If they win, they play in the district final on Monday (2/24) in Mount Pleasant at 7 p.m.

The Keota Eagles (10-8 overall) are paired up in the Class 1A-District 9 bracket with the Twin Creek Sabers (9-10 overall) in Sigourney at 6:30 p.m. The Sigourney Savages (13-2 overall) are also in the District 9 bracket and are scheduled to face the winner of the Wayne Corydon/Moravia clash in Sigourney following the Keota and Twin Creek game. The winners of the two games will meet in the district semifinal on Monday (2/24) at 6:30 p.m. from Moulton-Udell High School.

The Columbus Community Wildcats (1-16 overall), are paired up with West Burlington Falcons (8-10 overall) in West Burlington in the Class 2A-District 10 bracket on Monday (2/16) at 7 p.m. If Columbus wins, they would face the winner of Burlington, Notre Dame (14-3 overall)/Wapello (1-17 overall) on Thursday (2/19) in Burlington.

The Lone Tree Lions (15-3 overall) have received a bye in the first round of the Class 1A-District 7 bracket. The Lions will face the winner of Rivermont Collegiate (3-7 overall)/Midland Wyoming (5-12 overall) game in Lone Tree at 8 p.m. If Lone Tree wins, they face the winner of Easton Valley (13-4 overall) and Springfield (8-9 overall) in the district semis at a site to be determined on Monday (2/24).

Finally, the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (12-6 overall) are slated to face the Pekin Panthers (6-11 overall) in their district opener at 8 p.m. in Winfield. If W-MU wins, face an undetermined opponent in Wayland on Monday (2/24) at 8 p.m.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has yet to release class 3A, 4A and 5A pairings. KCII will bring you Washington’s pairing as soon as it is released.
