Area girls’ basketball teams know their initial postseason matchups as the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) released district brackets for Class 1A and 2A this week.

The postseason for the Washington Demons (5-13 overall) begins next Wednesday (2/18) as they will compete in the Class 4A-District 5 tournament against the Knoxville Panthers (16-2) at Knoxville High School. Live play-by-play coverage on KCII starts at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday on FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com. If Washington wins, they would play Pella Lady Dutch (15-2) in Pella on Saturday (2/21) at 7 p.m.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (13-6) opens postseason play at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman on Saturday (2/14). The Golden Hawks are slated to face the Williamsburg Raiders (3-17) in a Class 3A District 5 match-up. The game will be broadcasted live on KCII starting at 6:30 p.m. on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com. If Mid-Prairie wins they will face the winner of the Solon Spartans (12-7) vs Benton Comnunity Bobcats (9-10) game on Wednesday (2/21) at 7 p.m. in Wellman.

The Iowa Mennonite Girls basketball team (3-16) will start their postseason play in the Class 1A-District 6 tournament. IMS opens tournament play against the Keota Eagles (9-10) on Thursday (2/12). The game will be broadcasted live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. The winner of this game will play the winner of the WACO Warrior (11-6) vs. Tri-County (2-16) matchup next Tuesday (2/17) in Keota.

The WACO Warriors (11-6) will be playing in their first basketball game of the postseason on Thursday (2/12) against the Tri-County Thornburg Trojans (2-16) in a Class 1A-District 6 showdown.The game will be broadcasted live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com. The winner of this game will play the winner of the IMS (3-16) vs. Keota (9-10) game next Tuesday (2/17) in Keota.

The Lone Tree Lions (7-12) are paired up with Sigourney Savages (10-8) in their Class 1A-District 6 opener on Thursday (2/12) in Sigourney. The winner of this game will play English Valleys (14-5) in North English next Tuesday (2/17).

The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (2-17) start their postseason playing the New London Tigers (10-9) on Thursday (02/12). The Wolves are part of the Class 1A District 6 bracket with the game been played at New London. If W-MU wins, they will face Burlington Notre Dame (19-0) at Burlington next Tuesday (2/17).

The Highland Huskies (13-6) starts postseason play at home as they take on the North Mahaska Warhawks (4-16) in a Class 2 District 6 match up on Saturday (2/14). The game will be broadcasted live on KCII on FM 106.1 and on KCIIradio.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. The winner of the game will take on Iowa City Regina at Iowa City Regina (17-2) next Tuesday (2/17).

Finally the Columbus Community Wildcats (13-5) host the West Burlington (3-14) Falcons in their Class 2A District 5 opener on Saturday (2/14). If the Wildcats win, they will go to West Branch to take on the Bears next Tuesday (2/17).
