The offensive line coach for Iowa Western Community College says their newest Washington Demon signee has the ability to play multiple positions along their offensive line.

Reivers offensive line coach Dane Wardenburg believes Washington senior Tommy Peterson can be a versatile player, “He is a guy that has so much raw talent that we are able to use him at both offensive guard and tackle.” Wardenburg said, “Which is nice because there are times you peg a kid into one position or another and I think he can play both. I think his best chance of playing would be at guard. If I can teach him how to snap (a football), we will see, we might be able to play him at center.”

The IWCC football program has only been in existence since 2009, but has won 57 games and captured the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association Football Championship. Wardenburg says the Reivers’ success starts with the man who started the program, head football coach Scott Strohmeier and his recruiting philosophy. “His big thing is he wants to recruit the state of Iowa as best as we possibly can,” Wardenburg said, “We are as good as we are because of the talent that is in the state of Iowa, and I think that is a hidden secret.”

Last season the Reivers went 12-1 and made it all the way to the NJCAA Football Championship game, falling 34-17 to top seed East Mississippi. Peterson signed with the Reivers last Wednesday during a National Signing day event at Washington High School.
