It was a classic in Tim Grady Gymnasium last night as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (15-8) faced off in a quarterfinal match up with the Benton Bobcats (13-10). As you heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, the Golden Hawks fell just one point short, losing in overtime 49-48.

The game was close throughout and came down to the wire at the end of regulation. Mid-Prairie was down by one point with 13 seconds to go in regulation and senior Taylor Kurtz made two free throws to put the Golden Hawks up by one point. However, the Bobcats went would go down the floor and drew a foul with a few seconds left. Benton would only make one of the two free throws, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, sophomore Ali Butters got fouled with seven seconds leftin overtime with the game tied at 47: Butters made one of two free throws to put Mid-Prairie up by one. Then Benton junior Reanna Bear who scored six points all year, matched that with six points in overtime. She had a clutch layup in the final seconds to put Benton up for good.

The Golden Hawks made just 14 field goals in 51 attempts. They were led on offense by senior Ali Riggan with 10 points,nine of the points coming from three-point range.

The Golden Hawks end the season at 15-8. They will lose seven seniors on the roster, including starters, Lexi Duwa, Ali Riggan, and Taylor Kurtz. They do have a core coming back from this year, with Alex Rath, Addison Rath and Ireland Hostetler.
