As of right now, the chance for flooding in most parts of Iowa is average. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says for the Mississippi River and its tributaries, the chance is average to slightly above average. The chance is greater in parts of the state dealing with high soil moisture.

He says the severity of the potential flooding will all depend on the timing of spring rains and snowmelt.

The National Weather Service will issue its first official flood outlook of the year on February 19th.
