A new phone scam has been reported in Washington County and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens to take precautions. The caller claims they are from Publishers Clearing House and advises the subjects they have won a large prize, possibly a new vehicle. The caller asks the recipient go to Western Union and send about $300 for processing fees. Legitimate organizations will not ask for money up front to win a prize.

Law enforcement officials are urging citizens to not provide any personal information and to not send any funds. If you do receive a call of this manner, report it to the sheriff’s office or police department at 319-653-2107.
