In September, an area man was in a farm accident approximately one mile outside of Washington City limits where he was run over by a wagon. Brad Sheetz suffered a dislocated hip and deep cut while his five and six-year-old sons were at the scene. The Washington County ambulance responded to the scene in only eight minutes. However, as made aware at last night’s city council meeting, the Washington Rescue unit was not dispatched to the scene. The lack of more assistance at the scene alarmed the Sheetz family and they would like to see a change in the future.

Sheriff Jerry Dunbar spoke in favor of establishing a volunteer Quick Response medical team to assist.

Ambulance Director Richard Young said there are times when all of the four ambulances are out of the county. Also, state code doesn’t mandate EMS in each county, something he is working to change.

The council expressed support of looking into the matter. Council member Kathy Salazar said they’ll have a workshop with all of the entities involved at the table.
