The career of one of Washington’s greatest wrestlers ended this past weekend on the podium at the 2015 State Wrestling tournament. Washington senior Brad Skubal (195) wrapped up his four year of high school wrestling in the championship match of the Class 2A tournament on Saturday, falling to Mediapolis’s Steven Holloway by a 9-2 decision.

Skubal and the rest of the Washington Demon wrestlers were recognized during a pep assembly Wednesday morning in the High School’s main gym. He and fellow senior Alex Gonzalez particpiated in 107 different dual meets in their high school career, finishing with a record of 90-17. The two helped Washington capture back-to-back Southeast Conference wrestling titles.

Individually, Skubal finished second in school history in wins with 144. Only Fletcher Green (155), a 2014 graduate, had more wins in his wrestling career.  Skubal and sophomore Kyle Anderson (120) were the only medal winners at this year’s state tournament, with Anderson finishing in eighth place in his tournament bracket. Skubal ends his wrestling career as a two-time medal winner, securing a seventh place finish in the 2014 state tournament in the 182 pound weight class. Anderson and Green finished the 2014 state tournament with eighth place finishes.
