Despite the fact that snow has hit the area as of late, people can start spring gardens now. On Saturday, February 14th, Washington County Master Gardener Dianne Nelson will host a free program on starting garden transplants at home. Gardeners can start vegetables and annual transplants now. Nelson will discuss selecting seeds, potting mixes, containers, seeding, lighting, trasnplanting and thinning, seedling care and moving seedlings to gardens.

The Seed Lending Library through the Washington Public Library will also be presented by Debbie Stanton, director of the library. With the seed lending library, patrons can borrow seeds free of charge, grow the plants and then bring in a portion of the harvested seeds from the plants in the fall.

The free public program will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Washington County Extension Office.
