Sebelius signs letter of intent to play football for ICCC.

The head football coach of Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in Fort Dodge is excited about his two newest recruits from Washington High School. Washington seniors Daryn Sebelius and Tama Leutele signed scholarship letters of intent to play football for the Tritons and head coach Kevin Twait during a national signing event celebration Feb. 5 at Washington High School.

Sebelius, an all-state and all-district quarterback selection, will compete for the Triton starting quarterback position. Iowa Central Community College was on the short list of colleges who offered Sebelius a scholarship to play quarterback at the next level.

Triton coach Kevin Twait says he has no intention of changing him to the defensive side of the ball, “I know a lot of people wanted him to play outside linebacker, safety, or inside linebacker and there is nothing wrong with it, but I like what he brings to the table at quarterback.” Twait said, “I think in our offense, and in most college offenses today, you need a dual threat guy. You need a guy who can run, who can pass, and is a tough kid and (Daryn has all those qualities).”

Sebelius finished his senior season second in Class 3A in total yards (2959) and total touchdowns (33).

Leutele has signed a scholarship with ICCC to compete for a starting spot on the Triton defense. Leutele finished his senior year with 28 total tackles, seven for loss, and recorded two sacks for the Demon defense. Twait says there is a great chance to see Leutele on the Triton two-deep depth chart this fall. “In our system on defense, if they are in the two deep (depth chart), they are going to play.” Twait said, “We rotate a lot of guys in and out on defense to keep guys fresh against hurry up offenses. I would be shocked if (Leutele) wasn’t either starting or in the two deep on defense.”

The Triton football team finished last season 5-7 overall, including capturing the 2014 Graphic Edge Bowl. Listen to a full interview with ICCC head football coach Kevin Twait on tonight’s PM Sports Page, starting at 6 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
