One of the best season’s in WACO Warrior girls’ basketball history will continue into the second round of the postseason next week thanks to their best offensive performance of the season. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Warriors hosted the Tri-County Trojans in a Class 1A Region 6 opening round contest at Bob Hilmer Court in Wayland.

WACO’s front court of seniors Aaliyah Brown (19 points, four rebounds) and Erika Leichty (13 points, seven rebounds) combined for 32 points and 11 rebounds to help fuel a 59-27 victory for the Warriors. Fifty-nine points is the most points scored by WACO in a game this season; they had averaged 42 points per game heading into the postseason. Senior Gaby Wagler scored a career-high 12 points and brought down seven rebounds in the win.

The win improves the Warriors to 15-7 overall and advances WACO to the second round of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament, where they will face a familiar foe in the Iowa Mennonite School.

IMS surprised the Keota Eagles by winning 38-29 in their first round matchup at the Eagles Nest in Keota. WACO swept the season series with IMS, winning 57-41 in Wayland Dec. 5 and 35-19 in Kalona on Jan. 16.
