The Iowa Mennonite School (5-17) and WACO girls’ basketball teams (16-7) competed in the quarterfinals last night in Keota looking to advance to the semifinals. As heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com the Warriors pulled off the victory with a score of 35-26.

IMS had to a strong start in this game and they led after the first quarter 10-6. WACO got their offense going in the second quarter and ended it on an 8-1 run. The Warriors were up at halftime by a basket, 16-14. In the third quarter, it was a back and forth affair with neither team pulling away at the end of the third WACO led 24-20. In the fourth, WACO made enough plays on offense scoring 11 points while IMS could only muster six more.

WACO had a big night from senior Ericka Leichty who netted 15 points in the contest. Senior Alliyah Brown made some key baskets in the second half and finished with seven points.

IMS was led on offense by senior Riley Schmieder who finished with 12 points. Seniors Demi Brezina and Hannah Miller had six points each.
