A familiar foe awaits the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (5-11 overall; 1-6 Southeast) in their postseason opener. The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the basketball district pairings for the 3A and 4A classes.

Washington is slated to play the Wiliamsburg Raiders (16-1 overall; 13-0 WaMaC) in the Class 3A District 9 semifinal game on February 23 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin. The Demons are scheduled to host the Raiders in a non-conference regular season basketball game next Tuesday (2/17). The Raiders have won two of the previous three meetings between the schools dating back to the 2011-12 season, including a 65-42 victory last season in Williamsburg.

Williamsburg is off to a great start this basketball season, winning 16 of their first 17 games and have an undefeated record against WaMaC West opponents this season (13-0). The Raiders have three players averaging double figure points this season including Adam Klein (15.6), Josh Knoeppel (14.6), and Zach Schlabaugh (11.4).

Washington’s boys’ basketball team has been struggling as of late, losing their last five games to drop their overall record to 5-11. The Demons return to the court tomorrow evening against the West Liberty Comets at West Liberty High School.
