This past weekend’s winter storm was the biggest the state has seen in years. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the last time Iowa saw this much snow at one time was over five years ago, back in December of 2009.

Hillaker says snow totals ranged from five inches up to 15 inches. The heaviest snowfall occurred between Des Moines and the Quad Cities along the 1-80 corridor. He says this was all due to two storms, one that brought moisture from the southwest and another that came from the northwest, that intensified when they met over the weekend.
