The Winfield-Mt. Union football team finished the season at 5-5 and will have two seniors from that team continuing their football career. Seniors Thayne McElhinney and Lake Carlson will be playing college football at Simpson College for the 2015 football season.

McElhinney a 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, played running back for the Wolves. On offense he carried the ball 193 times for 830 yards with a 4.3 yards per carry average. He also eight rushing touchdowns. On defense at middle linebacker he had 34 tackles, with a sack and interception.
Carlson, at 5-foot-8 at 145 pounds. He played wide receiver where he had nine catches, 68 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he played defensive back had 29 tackles and a interception this season.
Simpson College is located in Indianola, just 12 miles south of Des Moines. The school is a four year program and its football program is in Division III. The Simpson Storm have had success on the football field with 14 Iowa Conference Championships and six trips to the NCAA Division III Championships.
