A documentary film crew is working on a project focused on two men from Washington County. The first subject is Frank Brinton who toured the country with his film collection and wife, Indiana, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The other subject is Michael Zahs; a retired history teacher and the individual who is sharing that film collection with a modern audience.

According to Andrew Sherburne, one of the filmmakers, the documentary will cover who the Brintons were, the significance of their collection, Zahs’ involvement and this weekend’s premieres. Sherburne says they will continue filming this summer as they follow Zahs on his tour, then start the editing process this fall. He adds grant funding from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and Humanities Iowa is making this project possible. Those interested on receiving updates on the project can sign up for emails at brintonfilm.com.

The two unique world premieres are being held at the Ainsworth Opera House. The first is Friday at 7 p.m., with another showing at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The second premiere will take place later that day at 7 p.m. Seats can be reserved by contacting Zahs at 653-6250 or mikezahs@gmail.com. Ticket proceeds will go to the Ainsworth Opera House.
