Money from the Riverside Casino will no longer be used for Riverside’s general operating expenses. The $1.2 million Riverside is set to receive from the casino in fiscal year 2016 will be directed to the capital improvement fund.

City Administrator Rusty Rogerson says to become self sufficient, the city’s property tax is being raised to $7.10 per $1,000. When the casino arrived, the city’s property tax was dropped from $8.10 to $5.10. Rogerson says they’ve raised the tax this fiscal year and next fiscal year so they can stop using revenue from the casino for day-to-day operations, and instead use the money to improve the city’s infrastructure.

He adds the council will prioritize the city’s capital improvement projects at a work session on March 30th.
