Museums across the globe are celebrating Museum Week. There are several local museums the community can visit, including the Kalona Historical Village.
The historical village was created in 1969 when a community effort led to the preservation of the 1879 train depot. Eleven other buildings have been added since then. The most recent addition was the Grout Church in 1984. While the village itself is a museum, it also contains what’s believed to be the only Mennonite museum in Iowa, the Wahl Museum, and the visitor center, which holds two nationally known quilt galleries.
Director Nancy Roth says through the buildings and artifacts, the history of Kalona continues to be told.
The village will be open tomorrow from 11 to 3 p.m.
