This year’s Washington Demon bowling team celebrated the past season during an end of the year awards banquet at Lebowski’s Rock ‘N Bowl last Friday. Among the awards given out were the highest game score, highest two game score, highest average score, the pinbuster award, the spirit award, outstanding rookie and the athlete of the year.

Sophomore Colin Zear highlighted the evening by winning three awards for the boys’ squad including the highest game score of 257, highest two-game score of 437, and highest game average with 186.2. Zear also received second team All-Conference and All-District honors.

Senior Ivy Hamilton won the highest game score with 221, and the highest two game score with 437. Senior Kailey Martin was recognized with the highest game average award with a 154.8 . Both Hamilton and Martin were selected to the All-District team; Martin chosen to the second team and Hamilton recognized as an honorable mention selection.

Junior Cheyenne Gillette and freshman Maclain Leyden received the pinbuster award. The accolade recognizes the bowler with the most pins above their average with Leyden knocking down 273 pins above his average, and Gillette knocking down 163 pins.

Senior Abbey Tisor and sophomore Kylan Gillette received the spirit awards for continued support and enthusiasm for the Demon bowling teams. Tisor was also the lone Southeast Conference academic All-Conference honoree, which recognizes student athletes who have a 3.25 grade point average or above.

Freshmen AnnaMarie Walter and Bailey Curtis were presented the outstanding rookie award.

Finally, Hamilton and Kylan Gillette were named athlete of the year, which notices the most improved averages on the team; Gillete improved his game average nearly 42 pins from 113.4 to 154.6. Hamilton improved her game average by 19 pins from 134.4 to 153.5.

The girls’ bowling team will have to replace three seniors, including Hamilton, Martin and Tisor. The boys’ return their entire varsity roster from this past season.
