Approximately 28 percent of Iowa is currently abnormally dry with a fraction of a percent in moderate drought. Most of the dry area is in Northern Iowa, except for a six-county area in western Iowa including Adair, Guthrie and Dallas counties. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, last week only 23.24 percent of the state was abnormally dry, while at this time last year 82.3 percent was in the same category.
