Area fire departments responded to four grass fires across Washington County yesterday. A grass fire was reportedly out of control in the 1400 block of West Main Street in Washington, just past the railroad tracks; Washington Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. At 5:25 p.m. a grass fire was going towards a timber in the 2800 block of Quince Avenue of Washington and the Washington Fire Department responded to the incident.

Wellman Fire Department requested assistance from North English Fire at 5:59 p.m. for a field fire in the 3200 block of V Avenue.

Kalona and Washington Fire Departments responded to a grass fire out of control going into a cornfield near Highway 1 and 133rd Street near Kalona.
