Seven out of 10 people diagnosed with colorectal cancer had no signs or symptoms, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH). March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in Iowa and the IDPH is urging residents to learn more about the second leading cause of cancer death in the state. A regular colorectal cancer screening test, a colonoscopy, should begin at the age of 50 or earlier if there is a family history of colon cancer.

During March, several providers across the state are offering low or no-cost screenings. Click here for the list of providers.

This Friday is “Dress in Blue Day” with people wearing blue to show they support efforts to prevent or detect colorectal cancer.
