After eight years as the head of the Highland athletic department, Tony Johnson has decided to pursue an advancement in his education career. Johnson, who is also the head football coach and transportation director at the school, handed in his resignation to the Highland Community School board earlier this month. Johnson has accepted a principal position in the Easton Valley School district effective July 1.

Johnson says one of his proudest accomplishments at Highland is the upgrades to the district’s athletic facilities, “We have a state-of-the-art facility out behind the school.” Johnson said, “We are also looking at renovations to our gymnasium in the near future.”

Highland finished the renovations to their current track and football field prior to the start of the 2012 football season.

In six seasons as head football coach, Johnson won 24 games for the Huskies, taking Highland to the playoffs during the 2012 season. Last year, the Huskies finished with a record of 3-6 overall.
