Washington School District Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen will be awarded at Saturday’s state boys’ basketball tournament. Jorgensen is one of six receiving an Iowa High School Athletic Association Administrator Award and being inducted into the School Administrators and Officials Hall of Fame. These awards are presented to former or soon to retire school administrators for their roles in activity programs and their contributions to the total education of their students.

Jorgensen was a two-time high school State Champion in Track and Field at Marshalltown High School and went on to be a four-year letter winner, team captain of indoor and outdoor track at Drake University and earned NCAA Division I All-American honors. He formerly taught and coached at Marshalltown and Perry high schools, before becoming principal at Southeast Webster-Grand in 1997, while also working as an adjunct professor at Morningside College. Jorgensen then became superintendent at Southeast Webster-Grand in 1998 and became Washington’s superintendent in 2010.

Jorgensen coached swimming, basketball, and softball and received numerous District Coach of the Year awards, as well as conference sportsmanship awards.

He and his wife, Virginia, reside in Washington.
