The cost of relining portions of Kalona’s sanitary sewer system is increasing. A change order for the work being done by Municipal Pipe Tool Company was approved by the city council at their meeting Monday. According to Mayor Ken Herington, the installation of manholes in areas believed to already have manholes is the reason for the $39,000 increase.  Herington says some of the 31,000 linear feet will not need to be relined, meaning the city may receive a reimbursement, making the final cost closer to the initial price of $1.1 million. He adds the project, which began in late 2014, is around 70 percent done.
