An extension in the boys’ basketball season kept the Keota Eagle boys’ and girls’ track from participating in the inaugural South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Invitational last March. Last year’s conference meet debut coincided with the boys’ state basketball tournament, where the Eagles participated in and finished as the fourth best team in Class 1A.

Head boys’ track coach Larry Lyle says it has been about three year’s since the last time one of his track teams has participated in an indoor meet. “We use to compete in the Indoor Meet at Central College, we (also) use to go to the Dickerson Relays at UNI.” Lyle said, “None of these guys have experienced something like that.”

Lyle says the biggest difference between running meets on an indoor track compared to an outdoor track is the diameter of the track. An indoor track is 200 meters around, roughly half the size of an outdoor track.

Head girls’ track coach Dan Stout, who has three girls make us his entire team, says he is using the meet to set individual goals. “We know we aren’t going to win any championships team wise.” Stout said, “Our goals are going to be to set some times for ourselves.”

The second annual South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Invitational will be held this afternoon beginning at 4:15 p.m. at Grinnell College.
