A local band is preparing for its upcoming performance at the Iowa Jazz Championships. Winfield-Mt. Union placed second in Class 1A on Saturday at the district jazz contest. This automatically qualified them for the Iowa Jazz Championships on Tuesday, March 31st in Des Moines.
Lone Tree placed third in Class 1A at districts, while Mid-Prairie’s jazz band placed third in Class 3A.
Mid-Prairie Band Director David Kunz says even though they didn’t make it to the championships, the jazz band’s year is far from over. He shares the band is performing at senior recitals, the conference honor band concert, graduation, and with the concert band tomorrow at the high school.
