During his first season as Lone Tree’s head track coach, Phil Kenney sent six athletes to the state Track and Field competition in Des Moines. Thirteen letter winners return for the Lions boys’ track team in 2015, including all six state qualifiers.

Four Lion track athletes qualified for multiple events at state last season. Seniors Travis Gilliam and Nick Viner were apart of Lone Tree’s state qualifying 4×100 relay team, 4×200 relay team, and distance medley team. Junior Jared Hudson represented Lone Tree at the state track meet in the Long Jump competition, 200 meter dash, and the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay team. Finally, sophomore Jovonte Squires went to state in the Long Jump competition, and and the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay team. Sophomores Drake Holz and Drake Viner also went to state as apart of the Lions’ distant medley team.

Squires finished in 4th place in the state long jump competition recording a jump of 20 feet 11 inches, while the 4×100 meter relay team finished in 9th place at state with a time of 44.98 seconds.

The Lions begin their outdoor season this Thursday afternoon competing in the Washington Relays.
