The K9 that serves the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office is receiving a bullet and stab protective vest. Through a campaign Groupon Grassroots partnered with non-profit Vested Interest in K9’s for money was raised between February 15th and March 5th to provide ballistic vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States.
According to Louisa County Sheriff Brad Turner, the vest will go to their German Shepherd West who is trained in apprehension. Turner says the apprehension training means West can be used in rare situations where there is a violent confrontation.
Vested Interest has provided over 1,300 law enforcement dogs with protective vests since it was established in 2009.
